Zachary Borovay, the director of media production at Luna Lux LLC, has created award-winning visuals that have been seen all over the world, including Disney and Universal theme parks
He designed the long-running Broadway hit Rock Of Ages, which also played Las Vegas, Hollywood, London, Toronto, Australia, Japan, Hollywood, toured the world and even played on the seven seas with Norwegian Cruise Lines. Additional Broadway credits include Holler If Ya Here Me, Waiting For Godot & No Man’s Land with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, Ann, Evita (also National Tour), Elf, Lombardi (Drama Desk nomination), A Catered Affair (Drama Desk nomination), and Xanadu (also National Tour and Japan).
The winner of the Helen Hayes award for best projection design and two IRNE awards for outstanding projection design in theatre, Zak has worked with many major theatrical luminaries including Casey Nicholaw, Kenny Leon, Michael Grandage, Rob Ashford, Chris Ashley, Warren Carlyle, John Doyle, Kristin Hanggi, Wayne Cilento, Arthur Laurents, Tommy Kail, Phil McKinley and Jerry Mitchell. He has collaborated with designers including Natasha Katz, Beowulf Boritt, Clint Ramos, Mark Fisher, Peter Hylenski, Christopher Oram, David Gallo, Ken Billington, Mike Baldassari, Anna Louizos, Brian MacDevitt, David Korins, John Shivers, Wendall K. Harrington, Jules Fisher, David Rockwell and producers such as Michael Cohl, Hal Lustig, Bob Boyett, Cameron Macintosh, Jordan Roth, Scott Sanders, and Joop van den Ende.
Zak designed projections and special effects for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, the multimedia circus Voyage De La Vie in Singapore, Peepshow at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas and Nickelodeon’s Storytime Live National Tour.
Zak has designed projections for the broadcasts of The Tony Awards, the Hispanic Heritage Awards, and Ann and Let Me Down Easy for PBS. He has designed events for Royal Caribbean, IWC, the Tribeca Film Festival, Rihanna, Sephora and many more. As a consultant, he has collaborated with Disney Parks Live Entertainment/WDI, Universal Studios, The Joshua Light Show, The Dallas Opera, Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center as well as several permanent installations at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
Zak taught the art of projection design at Emerson College, Montclair State University and has given lectures on design for live entertainment at the Yale School of Drama, Cal Arts, SUNY Purchase, Long Island University, NYU and many major trade shows including InfoCOMM, NAB and USITT. As the Live Design/LDI Content Advisor, he is widely recognized as an expert in the field of entertainment technology and design.
Zak is a co-host on the popular industry podcast Light Talk with the Lumen Brothers (and Sister!). He is also an accomplished bassist (he not only designed the media for Rock Of Ages but also performed with the band on several occasions).
