About me
Marcel Fairbairn joined the live events business as a working musician in his teens. Realizing he loved the business more than the music, he honed his selling skills in music retail - selling musical instruments and eventually sound and lighting systems. It was then, in the late 80's when he was pulled toward the lighting biz, eventually ending up with Martin Professional in Miami in 1991.
Rising up through the ranks with Martin, Marcel led the business, becoming responsible for many benchmarks including introducing Martin to concert touring, and professional rentals. Later, Marcel became a minority owner in Coemar along with their USA partners.
In 2002 Marcel founded GearSource.com, with a vision of establishing a safe platform and secondary markets for b-stock, discontinued and used lighting, sound, video, and staging gear to move around the world. Today, GearSource.com is the leading global marketplace for used live events gear.
In 2018 Marcel created Geezers Of Gear, a podcast for and about the live events community. Discussions with key industry individuals about their lives and stories about the industry, their travels, mistakes, wins and much more. Oh... and a little about gear too! Geezers Of Gear has been an innovator in creating an audience for company owners, key industry players, lighting designers, FOH engineers, managers or anyone with a story to tell - to tell their story! Today, Geezers Of Gear is the largest and most popular podcast in the live events industry and Marcel continues to innovate that space.
