About me
Jorge Tellez's journey into the world of lighting and production began in 1997 when he was hired as the assistant director of Security at the iconic Miami Beach Delano Hotel. Under the guidance of legendary hotel director David Miski and owner Ian Schrager, Jorge worked closely with the hotel’s high-profile VIP guests, including George Clooney, Jamie Foxx, Madonna, Karl Lagerfeld, and Luther Vandross. It was during this time that a pivotal moment occurred: Ian Schrager personally introduced Jorge to renowned event producer Susanne Bartsch. This encounter proved to be the catalyst that set Jorge on a transformative career path in the high-energy world of event design and production. With more than 25 years of experience,
Jorge Téllez has become a highly skilled and respected lighting, video, and production director. He has collaborated with Grammy Award-winning artists, top-tier producers, and renowned event organizers, delivering spectacular visual experiences in the most coveted nightclubs on the planet, live events, concerts, theatrical productions, TV commercials, photoshoots, and corporate functions. Jorge is known for his ability to conceptualize, design, program, and execute innovative lighting and video productions that captivate audiences and elevate the quality of every performance. Throughout his career, Jorge has gained expertise in cutting-edge systems such as grandMA3, Avolites Sapphire, Resolume, After Effects, Madrix, and Road Hog Full Boar.
Jorge envisions an entire venue as an immersive lighting spectacle, with the audience integral to the dynamic flow of the show. In a nightclub setting, he seamlessly transitions between intricate time-coded designs and his spontaneous reactions to the heartbeat of the crowd. Jorge collaborates masterfully, recognizing that his work would not be possible without the extraordinary synergy of his team. Every detail matters, and with the audience investing hundreds of dollars in admission, he is singularly focused on delivering an unparalleled experience—truly the greatest show on Earth. In 2023, Jorge assumed the role of Lighting and Special Effects Director for LIV Las Vegas, marking his debut alongside the highly anticipated grand opening of Fontainebleau Las Vegas, one of the most iconic openings in the city’s history. Here, he is responsible for designing, programming, and operating lighting shows for some of the world’s top touring artists, including John Summit, Dom Dolla, Tiësto, Green Velvet, and Peggy Gou. His work focuses on creating visually stunning performances, seamlessly blending festival-style design and storytelling with the creative mastery needed to light up the new 'Big Room' on the Las Vegas Strip. His proficiency in showmanship, paired with his work alongside world-class entertainers, has earned him the trust of the industry’s top talent. They rely on his ability to read the room like a virtuoso and to tell their story through the wizardry of lighting.
That same year, Jorge worked alongside renowned architect and designer John Sofio and the h.wood Group to design the lighting for Keys, a new venue on Los Angeles' famed Sunset Boulevard. This project challenged Jorge to craft an immersive lighting experience that translated musical notes into light. With a profound understanding of the designer’s vision and a keen awareness of the h.wood Group's clientele, he drew inspiration from the musical history of the famed LA Boulevard. His work at Keys continues to be praised for its innovative and atmospheric design. While the COVID pandemic put the production world on hold, Jorge joined forces with nightlife legend Romain Zago and took on the role of Director of Lighting, Video, and Production for a forthcoming project, MainRó, a splashy new venue on Los Angeles' Hollywood Boulevard. Even with the uncertainty of nightlife and the challenges of a broken supply chain, Jorge worked tirelessly to develop intricate lighting, video, and automation systems for the venue's grand opening. His designs for live performances, Broadway-style productions, aerialists, and special effects are a testament to his commitment to the "show must go on." MainRó opened with all the fanfare of Super Bowl week, ushering in a brand-new era of lighting design that seamlessly fused the energy of a “big room” nightclub with the outrageous glamour of a “superclub”. Jorge’s career includes numerous high-profile projects, including his role as Resident Lighting Director for the grand opening of AYU Dayclub & Zouk at Resorts World Las Vegas in 2021. There, he designed lighting for performances by top artists like Tiësto, DJ Snake, Post Malone, and Kaskade, creating visually stunning environments that captivated audiences throughout the summer season. From 2016 to 2020, Jorge served as Director of Production and Lighting for Hakkasan Group, opening "Jewel," an elegant multi-level "Big Room" venue located in the ultra-chic Aria Hotel, Las Vegas. He worked with A-list artists such as Drake, Gwen Stefani, Lil Jon, Steve Aoki, and Travis Scott. In this role, he managed all technical aspects of the venue, from lighting design to sound coordination, ensuring that each show was executed seamlessly.
The entertainment capital of the world was calling, and Jorge was recruited by lighting director Scott Chmielewski to help design the lighting for Omnia Nightclub and Heart of Omnia at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. This would become the most expensive club design in the world and the most elaborate lighting and technical design in the history of nightlife. Jorge played a pivotal role in the opening and continued to provide his expertise throughout his residency, as well as showcasing his work for dynamic events featuring stars like Elton John, Calvin Harris, and Justin Bieber. Between 2007 and 2014, Jorge elevated his signature style with the Opium Group at Mansion, a former legendary Vaudeville theater, and SET, a multi-level, ultra-luxury nightclub in Miami Beach. There, he designed lighting for some of the biggest names in music, including Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Pitbull, and David Guetta. His lighting also graced high-profile TV commercials, such as the Budweiser Global Commercial and Just for Men, as well as the Grammy Award-winning Foreigner photo shoot for Rolling Stone Magazine.
Jorge is fluent in English and Spanish and thrives in diverse environments, enjoying collaboration with global teams. Outside of his professional life, Jorge is passionate about outdoor activities such as mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, and marathon running. He is also a dedicated yogi, regularly practicing mindfulness and meditation to balance the demands of his high-energy career. ###
