ETC Eos Console Training - Ways to Get Started with Augment3d
Monday December 9, 2024 9:00am - 1:00pm PST
Come to this session if you want to learn about working with Augment3d, a suite of tools which adds a 3D programming and visual environment to the Eos Family of consoles, as well as Eos Software on Mac and PC.

With Augment3d, you can control your rig directly on your console, or from a tethered graphics-centric computer. You can even focus lights, preview your lighting looks in 3D space, and control your rig from your phone using augmented reality. Taught on the new Eos Apex console, this class takes you through getting Augment3d operational, introduces you to 3D environments and Augment3d zones, and how to build and use a model and lighting rig.

You’ll also learn about the Augment3d Scanner App and how it can make simple room-scanning a breeze.
Using your phone or tablet’s built-in AR tools, you’ll be able to instantly create a functional working model of your space – complete with floor, ceiling, walls, doors, windows, and proscenium so that you can start placing lights in Augment3d within minutes of walking in the door.

Prerequisites: Attendee should have a solid programming foundation with an Eos family lighting console. Level 1 – 3 are highly recommended before taking an introduction to Augment3d. Online classes are available at: https://learningstage.etcconnect.com/

Check out the other Eos family training sessions offered at LDI 2024!

XLIVE Keynote: Future World-Building: The Art of Digital and Physical Storytelling
Monday December 9, 2024 9:30am - 10:00am PST
Gentilhomme CEO and creative director, Thibaut Duverneix explores the intersection of digital and physical realms, where storytelling and world-building come together to create immersive and transformative experiences in entertainment. Discover the techniques and artistry behind crafting impactful experiences that captivate and inspire audiences regardless of the medium.

Highlights include:
  1. Creating Impact for Stakeholders: Immersive experiences should not only captivate audiences but also deliver measurable value to stakeholders. Aligning creative vision with business objectives ensures that every project drives engagement, brand loyalty, and revenue growth.
  2. The Medium is Not the Message: The essence of a story should transcend the medium through which it is told. The core message and emotional resonance of a narrative are what truly matter, regardless of whether it is delivered digitally, physically, or both.
  3. Hiding Technology to Create Magic: Master the art of seamlessly integrating technology to make it invisible to the audience, creating a magical experience that captivates without distraction.
  4. Creating Entertainment at Scale: Learn effective strategies for producing high-quality, large-scale entertainment that stays consistent and engaging across diverse platforms.

XLIVExLDI: How To Tech 1000 Hours Of Content
Monday December 9, 2024 3:00pm - 3:30pm PST
The public entrance lobby of the new Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) cancer research facility in Cambridge, MA was designed by Rockwell Group and serves as a public art installation as well as the entrance to the BMS building. Under the design leadership of the LAB at Rockwell, Lucid created real-time interactive simulations that evolve and change over an 18hr arc each day. These simulations are organized into the four seasons of the calendar year and each season has 5 unique variations, each one with an entrance and exit pairing of separate scenes. All of these scenes are reactive to LiDar in the two spaces, and they are inspired by the science taking place in the building. If we add it all up, that's a lot of hours to consider, design for, and meaningfully program and review. We look forward to presenting our process for tackling this challenge on a technical and interpersonal level and discussing the ups and downs of immersive experiential design with you!

This session is co-presented with frame:work, a community of live & virtual pixel makers.

From Lobby to Legend: How Great Wolf Lodge Transformed Lobbies into Dynamic Show Spaces
Monday December 9, 2024 3:00pm - 4:30pm PST
In June 2023 BRC was proud to open the first of a whole new phase of location-based signature attractions for Great Wolf Lodge Perryville, called The Legend of Luna—a lovely fable about a young adolescent wolf who longs to find her place in the world. Every evening just before bedtime, the Grand Lobby is magically transformed into an immersive storytelling space.

Join the project’s creative and technical leads — Edward Hodge of BRC Imagination Arts, Manny Treeson of NYXdesign, and Kurt Schnable of Clearwing Group — for a discussion on how they developed and used immersive media, a signature 24 hour score & audio soundscape, integrated lighting, generative design tools, and complex control logic to turn otherwise ordinary, pass-through public spaces, like hotel lobbies, into immersive, storied places of wonder and magic.

Key Takeaways:
  • Learn how the creative team was able to conceal show technology within architectural forms, hiding technology until the exact moment when these pieces become theatrical elements
  • Discover how generative video tools allowed for full immersion, seamlessly blending the rendered animation and the immersive design elements, including real-time manipulation of Notchblocks via the lighting console.
  • How the design team crafted a living and evolving lobby environment that flowed with the natural circadian rhythm of the day, allowing flexibility for daytime events and holiday overlays.
  • How the creative and tech teams scaled and adapted the design for installation in multiple Great Wolf Lodge lobby spaces, each with its own unique immersive, environmental, and design considerations.

Breaking Rectangles (Let Your Digital Dreams Flee the Screen)
Monday December 9, 2024 4:30pm - 5:00pm PST
With digital content permeating all disciplines of experience design, media-driven lighting can augment screen-based, high-resolution storytelling for a deeper immersion and a transformed environment – utilizing scale and proximity to extend the digital experience off the screen and into three-dimensional space for true-to-size human interactions. Inherently lo-res, abstract, and evocative, these interventions can have an even greater impact than a representational experience made up of millions of pixels, and can complement a high-res expression, expanding the literal storytelling and wrapping the spectator in a compelling visual landscape of architecture and space. This presentation will examine the way a number of award-winning projects have created a true immersivity in environments ranging from indoor experience centers to exterior, city-scaled developments. In addition to discussing the design evolution, from intent to implementation, we will reveal some of the technical challenges and opportunities afforded in each case. Below project examples, along with others TBD, may be drawn on to spark the conversation

This session is co-presented with frame:work, a community of live & virtual pixel makers.
