Learn how experts organize information across consoles: Fixtures, groups, palettes, cues, views, and much more. Explore the theory and relationships behind designers, programmers, and all the data and responsibilities they share. This session is perfect for new programmers or for existing programmers wishing to brush up on their skills.

ILDA’s Lasershow Operator course provides a basic overview of laser safety, for those who are operating laser show equipment, or are working around laser shows. It goes over laser safety basics and why it is important to follow procedures set up by the Laser Safety Officer.

This course is actually the first portion of the LSO for Lasershows course. You and the LSO students will go over the same material. You will take the Lasershow Operator test, and then the course will be over for you. (The LSO students will continue for a few more hours and will have an additional test.)

The Lasershow Operator part takes about 4 hours plus there is a 45 minute test. Attendees who pass the test receive a Certificate of Completion.

(The longer LSO course goes into more detail on many of the topics covered in the Laser Operator portion. The LSO course also goes over how to fill out and submit FDA variances and FAA outdoor laser operation forms, and discusses hazards of audience scanning)

Used from Broadway to Britain’s West End, QLab is a powerful tool for audio, video, lighting, and show control. With the advent of QLab 5, even more tools have been added into the mix, making QLab a versatile program of choice for numerous applications. This course is designed to give participants with little to no experience with QLab working knowledge of how to use it in a professional setting. Taught by Jeromy Hopgood, USA829 designer and the author of QLab 4 and The Projection Designer’s Toolkit, this course covers QLab 5 software, audio control, cue carts, and network functions. Learn through hands-on projects and benefit from tips and shortcuts to develop your own workflow for designing in QLab.

• Must bring your own Mac laptop with the most current version of QLab 5 (Audio Bundle).

In this hands-on course you will learn best practices, tips, and tricks for designing and implementing an IP network using NETGEAR AV switches. You’ll see firsthand how to approach network design and make sure you configure it correctly. Taught by Alex Pendleton, a very experienced member of the NETGEAR Pro AV Design Team, you’ll be able to ask questions, try out various scenarios, and ensure you are armed with the knowledge you need to succeed on your next project.

This intensive, hands-on half-day course provides a solid introduction to Vectorworks for Entertainment Rigging. The Braceworks™ add-on module for Vectorworks Spotlight and Designer allows design, production, and rigging professionals to gauge the performance of temporary suspended structures under load. Learn how to model and present a design and conduct structural analyses on suspended system loads. Attendees will also explore how to create a 3D data model and generate rigging plans, documentation, and design presentations.

Target Audience: Live event design, production, and rigging professionals.

Prerequisites: THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER CLASS. Attendees must be comfortable drafting in a 3D environment and have a general understanding of entertainment rigging.

It’s easy enough to run stinger cables (a.k.a. a single or an extension cord) to power an audio console, video projector, lighting instruments, or an entire stage, but is it safe? Is it reliable? The safety and reliability of a portable power distribution system depends on every link in the chain. Given the way we toss around our equipment, the way to throw it in a road case, run it along the ground and step on it, run over it with forklifts and golf carts, leave it outside all day long to bake in the sun, day in and day out, there are usually hidden weak links that could devolve into major problems. But we can get ahead of potential problems by learning to spot those weaknesses using the right tools for the job, and by monitoring the system during operation. This one-day class is designed to walk through best practices for setting up and monitoring portable power distribution systems so that they are safer and more reliable.

Prepare to take the ETCP Entertainment Electrician’s exam or the ETCP Portable Power Distribution Certification exam, or just advance your knowledge and career with this class.

This class aims to provide an understanding of key network terms and an overview of the common AV network protocols. It also teaches and demonstrates the configuration of Luminex networking and lighting products. This class is best suited for show techs, sales reps, basic system designers, or people who will be using the Luminex product line and need a basic understanding of configuration and use.

Join Dylan Roscover, Designer-Founder of The Experiential Company (TEC), for a comprehensive full-day intermediate TouchDesigner workshop. This session is crafted for professionals involved in live music & tours, broadcast, venues, projection mapping, LED installations, and immersive experiences, providing an opportunity to develop the use of TouchDesigner for building and operating sophisticated media servers and show control systems. Participants will engage in hands-on learning, focusing on the integration of MIDI, the nuances of recording performance data in real-time, and the construction of robust preset and preset engine systems.

Join professional riggers for a discussion of how creative designers can effectively include rigging designers into their process so that the interaction with the rigging team is positive and effective. In this session, we will discuss the most important information that rigging designers need in order to maintain the safest environment and what the creative team can expect from a rigging designer during the process. The successful participant will have a greater working knowledge of rigging design and the process by which a creative design gets rigged.

We now have documented guidance, by way of ANSI standards, that help us work efficiently and create safer worksites. While that was all being created, most of us also had to abide by OSHA codes created by federal and state governments that are also meant to create safer working environments. During this session we will discuss how ANSI and OSHA now work together to have a targeted effect on the entertainment industry. How do we navigate both of these bodies and which one do we really have to pay attention to? Well, as it turns out....both!

Thanks to many pioneers in our industry, the level of awareness and understanding of providing protection for people working at heights has improved by leaps and bounds. However there is always room to improve. Why is it that we always seem to default to designing fall arrest systems vs fall restraint systems? What can we learn from today's entertainment venues and tours to help us design better fall protection systems for our workers? Mechanized and automated rigging have become prevalent in our venues. The systems we encounter can be designed for one-off applications or for long-term installations. During this session we will look at two different approaches to mechanized or automated rigging. We will discuss the building blocks for these pieces of machinery to better understand the differences between them, and we will also explore maintenance and inspection. This session will also explore what the "must haves" are in any mechanized or automated system.
11:30am-1:00pm: Risk Assessment & Risk Reduction In Performer Flying & Aerial Rigging: Tools to Determine Levels of Risk.

Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction is a process that riggers have been doing for decades. However, we have not always been the best at recording the process in writing, so there is really no proof that we actually did it, and nothing after the fact that can be examined to see where an omission might have occurred. Written RA/RR assessment are becoming more commonplace for all types of installations, so having a somewhat uniform process is desirable. This session will take the participant through the process of identifying hazards and risks, evaluating and quantifying the probability and severity, mitigating the probability or severity or both, quantifying the residual risk, documenting the process, and repeating it until the risks are acceptable. The successful participant should be able to repeat this process and develop an RA/RR plan for their own facility or activity.

2:00-3:30pm: Video Wall Rigging - Negotiating Reality vs What The Engineer Specified.....Can We Negotiate?

High-resolution video walls are now so common that if a show doesn't have them the audience is completely lost on where to look. While there has been amazing progress in the design of the LED panels and the rigging, there can still be a cavalier attitude to some of the finer details that affect the safety of the production. The discussion here will be on those finer details that can mean the difference between a successful or unsuccessful outcome during load-in, strike, or inclement weather. What flexibility does the rigger have to make changes on-site when they are faced with reality? Do they need to check with the engineer on every little detail? Let's see what the engineer has to say about that!
4:00-5:00pm: Closing Panel: An opportunity to wrap up the discussions and provide an open forum for conversation about all that was discussed over the two days. There's no agenda for this one. We just want to see what people are thinking.  

Lighting and video programmers unite! The Battle of the Busk is back with an all new configuration including live video and a show floor stage. This three day workshop will enrich programmers in the latest technology and professional theory behind building a live show. Participants will divide up into teams, working in pre-visualization stations equipped with lighting consoles and video platforms, under the guidance of manufacturer sponsored technical support and professional mentorship to create a large competitive show. Expect two days of hands-on experience, Lighting led by Luther Frank and video with Pixera media servers led by Kerstin Hovland and Chet Miller. The final day of the workshop culminates in a live show opening night at the LDI Circle Bar, complete with a People’s Choice Award and extended networking event.

Day 1 (Friday) - Live Programming: How to Busk- (9am-5pm)
The workshop begins with onboarding all participants on the tools available to them for Monday’s competition. We’ll cover the lighting desks, video stations, pre-made tools, and the best practices for establishing a workflow to getting the show audience ready. A brief seminar will showcase some of the best methods from top professionals throughout the industry including punt pages, effect libraries, and deployment theory. After this, we’ll break into teams for the rest of the workshop. Each team will be introduced to their workstation, and begin training and setup procedures for effective pre-visualization and design.

Day 2 (Saturday) - Live Programming: Prep for Success- (9am-5pm)
The second day is a full day of hands-on creative exploration. Teams will be given access to their equipment, console trainers, and professional mentors in equal blocks to keep them moving towards their final showing. As the day concludes all teams will test their systems and have a chance at last looks before finalizing their busking tool sets for tomorrow's show.

Day 3 (Sunday) - The Battle of the Busk (4pm-7pm)
The third day of the workshop is the opening day of LDI, and the final competition, showing each team's work. Once the LDI Crew and Connect Industry Party opens at 6pm at the Circle Bar, the industry will gather to observe and vote on their favorite live performance. Expect energy, excitement, and a networking event like nowhere else in our industry.

Day 4 (Tuesday) - Awards Ceremony: 9am-10am -DSE Keynote Stage
Winners will be announced at the LDI Booth and Product Awards Breakfast Ceremony. Prizes will be awarded.

Ethernet for Entertainment Beginner session covers the basics of Ethernet systems, including cables and connections, simple system architectures, and how to use Ethernet to distribute DMX512. Hands on portion will teach students how to terminate RJ45 connectors. System architecture will discuss basics of switches and the differences between copper and fiber optic signals. DMX512 distribution will discuss where to best convert from Ethernet protocols such as sACN or Art-Net to DMX512 to have the most reliable system.A half day in-depth intro to Ethernet for entertainment cabling and network training

MagicQ basic training course covers the use of all MagicQ products including our MagicQ consoles and PC Interfaces.

The course covers starting new shows from scratch, layouts, patching, recording and editing cues, cue lists and chases, FX programming.
The course is suitable for all skill levels but suited more to those starting out with MagicQ.
Experienced users can pick up new tips and tricks.

Set up for training is two people per console using ChamSys MagicVis for visualization.

Taught on the new Eos Apex console, the Level 3 class will teach even seasoned professionals a thing or two about the features of their console. This class is perfect for programmers who are proficient with the basic functions and are ready to learn more. Topics covered in this class include advanced patch functions, advanced selection and complex fixtures control features, and intermediate Magic Sheets skills.

This 2-day intermediate course covers the Hog 4 control software which is used on the Hog 4, Full Boar 4, Road Hog 4, Hedgehog 4, and Hog 4PC. This hands-on class will use an industry standard Hog 4 Console connected to Capture visualization software. The class covers most parts of the console software including the new color handling features of v4.0, and plenty of time allotted for questions and general practice time.
Prerequisites: Attendee should have prior experience with automated luminaires and a general familiarity with lighting consoles. In addition, they should have working knowledge of the DMX 512 communication protocol, fixture addressing, and patching. Some previous Hog 4 experience is highly recommended but not required.

A full-day combination of the two-half day sessions, intro and advanced.  

This two-day course is designed for programmers who have little to no experience with grandMA lighting consoles or for people new to lighting programming in general. It covers the basics of views, attribute manipulation, patching, groups, presets, sequences, executors, and phasers. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of programming the grandMA3 software. All attendees are strongly encouraged to complete the free grandMA3 Beginner Pretest first. If you do not score at least 85% on this test, we strongly recommend reviewing the free grandMA3 Prerequisite course before attending a grandMA3 Beginner course. This class assumes some underlying knowledge of the topics covered in the prerequisite course and we will not have time to review all of this basic information.

This course is designed for avid grandMA2 programmers who are transitioning to grandMA3. It covers grandMA2 to grandMA3 differences in hardware layout, general navigation, 3D, selection, phasers, layouts, timecode, networking, and more. This course is designed to help programmers become familiar with these key differences.

This hands-on training will give attendees the foundational training on the VYV Product ecosystem and practices for when they encounter our systems. This training covers manual projection calibration, automatic calibration, timeline programming, media management and show control.

This training introduces attendees to the Dante platform. It offers fundamental knowledge on digital
audio, network addressing and how to use Dante Controller with your Dante devices. This course provides enough knowledge to operate a Dante system in daisy chain mode or with a single network switch.

This session takes fundamentals into show creation process. Industry professionals examine myriad productions and how they each operate differently. Cover cuelists, busking, magic sheets, macros, and advanced tricks and stories from speakers on how they got it done.

This seminar delves into the biology, and physics of color so that we can understand how our bodies react to color and light. We will also look at how to use the latest measuring tool TM-30.

Young Career Professionals: Career Day Keynote

For those just entering the industry as professionals, or seeking to re-invent themselves within it, there is a brilliant and sometimes bewildering array of career path and training options. As an educator and practitioner across many models and genres, Sharon will share some insights and strategies to help people not only survive, but thrive along their pathways.

This keynote is open free to all LDI attendees.

Dante Certification Level 2 offers a deeper explanation of how to create larger networks. This class
offers insights on how much bandwidth is used, how to manage it, basic optimization, and factors to consider if you want to synchronize to an external clock. Level 2 is helpful for those working on systems that will involve multiple network switches.

How to visualize, plan, build, and execute a project, either your dream to help others in this business or for your own career.  Networking, funding, building the team and the mission.

Explore the equally simple and complex nature of effect building. Learn how experts create stunning looks using basic math, selections, offsets, spreads, and clever thinking. We also cover the networking knowledge every programmer needs as well a  touch on the strange and unique requests we're often asked to fill in the ever-evolving world of live design.

Ethernet for Entertainment Advanced session covers network management for Ethernet protocols such as sACN or Art-Net, including switch setup, network design, and discussion of real-world challenges and solutions using Ethernet. Switch setup will cover how entertainment protocols differ from the applications most switches are designed for, and how to configure inexpensive commercial switches for entertainment use. Network design will discuss selecting appropriate network devices for applications that vary from small and simple to large and complex. Discussion of real world challenges is an open discussion where attendees will be able to present issues they have experienced and ask about future plans for Ethernet systems.

Used from Broadway to Britain’s West End, QLab is a powerful tool for audio, video, lighting, and show control. With the advent of QLab 5, the QLab video engine has been rebuilt from the ground up, offering many new tools and methods for dealing with video. This course is designed to give participants with little to no experience with QLab working knowledge of how to use it in a professional setting. Taught by Jeromy Hopgood, USA829 designer and the author of QLab 4 and The Projection Designer’s Toolkit, this course covers QLab 5 video functions and workflow. Learn through hands-on projects and benefit from tips and shortcuts to develop your own workflow for designing in QLab.

• Must bring your own Mac laptop with the most current version of QLab 4 (Pro Bundle).

In this ConnectCAD seminar, you will explore some of the most common workflows and utilize the latest tools and commands of the ConnectCAD Module. Designed to help you save time by designing more efficiently, this seminar will cover the fundamental knowledge needed to be successful with ConnectCAD.

Target Audience: Those seeking to use ConnectCAD to create easy-to-read schematic drawings and rack layouts in a Hybrid 2D/3D environment.

Prerequisites: Attendees must have a solid understanding of Vectorworks and be comfortable drafting in a Hybrid 2D/3D environment.

We also recommend taking the Getting Started seminar, and completing the Core Certification Course online.

Esta clase de 4 horas utilizará Vectorworks Spotlight para crear y gestionar gráficos de iluminación. Esta clase se centra en diseños de iluminación, algunos elementos escénicos y audiovisuales. Los temas incluyen inserción de luces, numeración de focos, direccionamiento DMX, creación de programas de instrumentos y publicación de gráficos de luces.
